It is recommended to have a top level Object Type in Jira Assets to be the parent object type for all the objects types migrated from legacy platforms.
As Cherwell does not have a parent configuration item type, it is recommended to create this manually within your Jira Assets schema prior to migration of the configuration item types in Cherwell to the Object Types in Jira.
In the example below we have such an object type called "Base Element".
Once created, configure the object type for inheritance to select both the Pass all attributes to child object types and Set this object as abstract.
The primary benefit to creating this parent object type is to easily support the definition of the relationships between object types. In the following example, we have created an Object attribute for "Related Objects" referencing the "Base Element" type.
The attribute used for the relationships also needs to be configured. Firstly the Include Children option should be selected to allow references to all child object types in the attribute.
Secondly, you should configure the Cardinality to ensure multiple objects can be referenced either specifying the maximum or selecting the Unlimited option.
