Description of Issue
This issue was identified in Precision Bridge 7.4 and is still present in release 8.0
It relates to using Precision Bridge in a multi-user environment on Windows. It is particularly an issue where the users do not have administrator permissions.
If one or more users are using Precision Bridge they may on occasion be prompted to configure or repair Precision Bridge when using either the desktop shortcut or start menu shortcut. Aside from being inconvenient, the user may not have the permissions to perform this operation.
Workaround
The issue relates to the shortcuts that are created by the installer. The simplest workaround is to delete these shortcuts and re-create manually.
Precision Bridge is working on a permenant fix for this issue, but the following process can be performed to resolve it.
This process will need to be completed for each user. It assumes that Precision Bridge 8.0 is installed, but can be adapted for other versions by using the appropriate version number in the instructions below.
Replace Desktop Shortcut
- On the desktop, delete the shortcut to Precision Bridge.
- Navigate to the install folder for Precision Bridge. For version 8.0, this will be C:\Program Files\Service Management Integrations\Precision Bridge 8.0 by default.
- Right click on the PrecisionBridge.exe file and select 'Create Shortcut'.
- You will be prompted to create the shortcut on the desktop - click Yes.
- Find the shortcut on the desktop and rename it as appropriate (for example to Precision Bridge 8.0)
- This shortcut should no longer exhibit the configure/repair behaviour.
Replace Start Menu Shortcut
- Navigate to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Precision Bridge 8.0
- If the folder Precision Bridge 8.0 does not exist, create it.
- Copy the desktop shortcut (created above) and paste it into the Precision Bridge 8.0 folder.
- This shortcut should no longer exhibit the configure/repair behaviour.
