Simple field mappings are used to map a field from the source form to a field on the target form without any manipulation to the field value.
To create a Simple Field Mapping, first select the Target Field from the list of fields in the Field Mapping List, then select Simple from the New Mapping field below.

When you select Simple from the New Mapping field, a new screen is presented with the name of the target field displayed at the top in bold. To map a field from the source form, just select from the menu on the Source Field and click the Apply button.

If it's not clear which Source Field value to select from the menu, click on the button to the right of the Source Field to reveal a more comprehensive list of fields with filtering options like this:

Mandatory fields are displayed in bold text.
To restrict the list of fields, enter a value in one or more of these Filters:
Name/ID (Free text)
Mapping Status (Mapped / Unmapped)
Type (Select from Field Types available to this server type)
Mandatory (Checkbox)
Then click on the Apply Filter button
To clear the filter and display the full list of fields on the Source form, click on the Clear Filter button.
Once you have identified the field you want to map, select the corresponding row in the table and click on the Select button. The original mapping screen is then displayed with this value populated in the Source Field. Click on the Apply button to apply the mapping.
Identifying custom fields on a BMC Remedy server.
If your source server is of type BMC Remedy then an extra column appears on the left of the field-list to indicate custom fields. These are fields that have been added to the source form using Best Practice Mode of development.

You can also filter the list of fields to restrict to custom fields only by selecting the Custom Only checkbox at the top.
Using Default Values with Simple Mappings
If necessary, you can also define a Default value to use in the event that the source field value is null.
The default value can also be used to set a literal value without selecting a source field. In this case, just leave the source field blank and enter the literal text in the Default Value field that you want to set.
If you have defined one or more project variables (see project variables article), you can use this value as the default instead. Just click on the 'Use Project Variable Default' checkbox then select the project variable that you want to use.

The project variable data-type must be compatible with the target field type.
Once the mapping is applied, it appears in the Mapping List table with the Mapping Type (Simple) and the Source Field value.
