External Lookups can be used where there is a need in a particular migration project to include data from an external source, for example looking up customer specific configuration data in a database or from a csv file. This powerful feature allows, for example, customer specific value mappings to be read from a csv file, or from a database table rather than hard coding this detail in the project for each customer in turn.
An external lookup connection must be configured when the project is created or opened.
To define an external lookup server connection, select the external lookup server type as shown below.
For example, we have selected Oracle DB as an external lookup server as shown below-
Handling Errors on Selecting the Server Type
Some server types (notably database connections and Remedy connections) require configuration tasks before they can be used. If this is the case with one (or both) of the servers defined by the template you will get errors and will not be able to define a connection of this type.
If the DB Server Driver configuration is incomplete or incorrect, you will get an error as shown below. See Application configuration settings for detailed information about DB server configuration.
If the Remedy API has not been copied to the expected location, you will also get an error (see below). See Configuring Access to Remedy ARSystem Servers (Precision Bridge 6.3 and above) for detailed information about Remedy server configuration.
For more information specific to configuring different servers as External lookups, see section:
Configuring Server Connections
The connection will be tested when the project is opened. With an external lookup server defined, you can configure lookups within the project to use it. For more information, see section:
Creating an External Server Lookup Query
For more information on configuring Database Servers or BMC Remedy for use in Precision Bridge, see the following sections:
