Once Precision Bridge is Licenced, you will be able to create a new project using the menu item File ->New -> Project. The Create Project Dialog will be shown.
First, give your project a name. The name must be unique within the location in which it will be saved.
Secondly, select the location where the project will be saved. By default, this will be in the Precision Bridge Projects\Projects folder in the user's default documents folder.
Next, select the source and target server types. Note that although all server types are available to select, to successfully create the project you will need to hold a licence for the server types (or adaptors) that you select. More information can be found here
Once the Server Types are selected, you must configure the connections. See Configuring Server Connections for detailed information about configuring connections for each Server Type available.
Alternatively, if you have any connections previously saved, you can open them by clicking the button next to each server type drop down as described in the article Managing Server Connections.
You can enter any notes about the project on the notes tab. This could include, for example, what it does, instructions for executing it a version history, etc.
More information about the options tab can be found in the article Project Options - Caching of Server Form and Field Metadata
It is also possible to configure External Servers (including CSV files) that can be used to look up values from within the project. More information is given in the article Configuring an External Lookup Server Connection
If you want to write migration reports to an external database, the connection to the database must be configured on the 'Report Target' tab. More information can be found in the section Writing Migration Reports to Database Tables
Handling Errors on Selecting the Server Type
Some server types (notably database connections and Remedy connections) require configuration tasks before they can be used. if this is the case, you will get errors when selecting the server type and will be unable to create the project.
If the DB Server Driver configuration is incomplete or incorrect, you will get an error as shown below. see Application configuration settings for detailed information about DB server configuration.
If the Remedy API has not been copied to the expected location, you will also get an error (see below). See Configuring Access to Remedy ARSystem Servers (Precision Bridge 6.3 and above) for detailed information about Remedy server configuration.
Handling Errors when Creating the Project
There are a few reasons you might get an error when clicking Create:
- One (or both) of your connections is not licenced. For a subscription licence, you must explicitly identify all the source and target connections that you may be using in your projects. If the connection you are using is not licenced, you will get an error and will be unable to create, open or execute the project. See Licencing Precision Bridge for more information. Note that external lookup connections and reporting server connections do not need to be licenced.
- One or more of the connections failed when tested. Check the connection details, including authentication before trying again. You can use the 'Test' buttons for each connection to confirm that Precision Bridge is able to connect. Sometimes connectivity can be impacted by firewalls and certificate errors. See the sections on creating specific connection types for more information.
