Replication & Archiving Overview

What is a Replication & Archiving Project?

Replication & Archiving projects in Precision Bridge are much the same as any other project. Form mappings are defined between a source and target server, and the project executes in the same way.

We refer to 'Replication Projects' and 'Archiving Projects' as any project which has a database as its target connection. While a project with a database target could be used for other purposes (in which case the archiving documentation may be ignored), we focus on the typical requirements of migrating to a database as part of a project in which data should be replicated onto the target database, and optionally deleted from the source.

Supported Databases

Precision Bridge currently supports the following database types as target connections:

• Oracle
• SQL Server
• mySQL
• PostgresQL
• SAP Hana DB

To use these, the relevant Java driver must be configured under File -> Configure -> Application. See configuration options for more details.

These databases can be hosted anywhere provided the machine hosting Precision Bridge can access them. This includes local databases and cloud-hosted databases, for example

• Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Google Cloud
• Microsoft Azure

Precision Bridge Replication & Archiving Features

Precision Bridge has incorporated multiple features specifically to support replication & archiving projects. In particular:

• Auto-creation of the relevant database tables
• Auto-creation of form mappings and field mappings
• Support for delta migrations by auto-creating filters

These features are explained in more detail throughout this section.
