Design View and Execution View User Interface

Precision Bridge has one user interface for building projects (the design view) and one for executing projects (the execution view). The term Execution means running a migration operation using your project.

The design view is always shown when Precision Bridge is started. It is from here that you can create and edit your projects. To execute the project you are designing, you can use the Project->Execute Current Project menu item. When you execute the project, the view will change to the execution view, showing you the progress of your migration.

You can switch between the execution and design views using the View menu.

The design and execution views operate completely independently. You can be executing a project in the execution view while editing a project in the design view.

Menus

Precision Bridge is primarily a menu driven application.

You use the menu bar at the top of the screen to interact. Right click (context) menus are also available for some controls.

View Menu

This menu is used to toggle between the design view and execution view of Precision Bridge. See the previous section for more information.

File Menu

In Design View, use this menu to create projects, open projects, save projects and configure application settings.

For example, File->New->Project will open a new project dialog, where you can enter the connection details for the source and target server you would like to migrate from/to.

In the Execution View, you can load projects directly for execution without having to open them in the design view first.

Project Menu

This menu will only be enabled when a project is open and is only available in the design view. From here, you can view and edit the content of your project with actions such as:

• Creating new form mappings
• Creating and editing project variables
• Validating your project, to see if there are any issues that need to be resolved prior to execution
• Executing your project

Execute Menu

This is only available in the execution view. From here, you can schedule loaded projects to execute or cancel executions.

Help Menu

From here you can access the user guide, the Precision Bridge support portal and view your licence details.
